Barbara Bel Geddes was an American actress, artist, and author. When she died in 2005, she was worth $4 million. She was best known for her role on the TV show Dallas as Miss Ellie Ewing.

In 1955, she played Maggie in the first Broadway show of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” Geddes’s first role was in the 1947 movie The Long Night. She played Ellie Ewing on the TV show Dallas from 1978 until 1990. For her roles in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Mary, Mary on Broadway, Barbara Bel Geddes was nominated for Tony Awards for Best Actress in a Play. She was up for an Oscar for her role in the movie I Remember Mama as Best Supporting Actress. She was also in the movies Blood on the Moon, Caught, Panic in the Streets, Fourteen Hours, Vertigo, The Five Pennies, Five Branded Women, By Love Possessed, Summertree, and The Todd Killings. On August 8, 2005, when she was 82 years old, Barbara Bel Geddes died.
